I learned to knit about ten years ago. I love it because 1.) it isn't expensive to begin -- just a ball of yarn, some needles and a pattern and 2.) it allows me to veg in front of the TV and still feel productive because I'm knitting a blanket. I taught myself to knit using this book, but there are a ton of YouTube videos that can help you out, too.
My favorite things to knit are all baby-related because they're tiny and cute and I can use colors like mint green and baby pink which I'm pretty sure my kids are old enough to reject now. I'd call myself an advanced-beginning knitter so none of the following projects are too crazy to attempt.
Here are a few of my favorites:

I have no explanation for this, but I'm currently obsessed with sock giraffes. I mean, look at him! So stinking cute. They also knit up faster than a baby blanket and I think they're unique (and they get rid of your yarn stash! Bonus!) The pattern can be found here...along with sock bunnies, piggies and a sock hippo that might make me rethink my giraffe obsession.
I made this reindeer hat last year for my four-year old but the pattern here has sizing from newborn-ten years old.
Up next week -- a pattern for a baby blanket I just finished!
Happy knitting! Thank you for visiting Peace but not Quiet.

ReplyDeleteI think I've been there, too! I always have to re-look up how to do a Turkish cast-on...
