A Book Nook

We have an awkward spot in our family room. An odd little corner of no real practical use.

For a long time it was home to an entertainment center that we love but have no spot for...and the kids' play kitchen. It would be the perfect spot for a homework desk, except that it's in the same room as the TV. So that's a big "NO."

Then I found this bookshelf at the thrift store. It was originally white, so I woke it up with a little paint.

I bought the Madeline poster at a bookstore about 10 years ago with no real plan for where it would go. I finally found a spot.

My sister painted this chair for my first baby.

I added a few floor pillows that were floating around the house...and voila! Book nook.

Total cost: $21 ($8 for the bookshelf, $10 for the paint, $3 for the craft letters.) I shopped my house for everything else.

The kids love sitting over there, reading and doing puzzles. And I love finally having a purpose for that space.

  1. Love this! I recently made some big floor cushions for my kids as well, and we filled them with stuffed animals. Maybe our next home improvement project will be a little reading corner where those cushions can have a home. Thanks for posting!

    1. it's been great this week while it's cold and snowy outside! My goal this year is to get friendly with my sewing machine and make some pillows, too...
